1. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: information you provide to us directly, and information collected automatically when you use our service.

Information you provide:

• Search information: When you run a search, you provide a name and a U.S. state. This is the core input needed to query public records.
• Email address: Collected when you create an account or request search results to be emailed to you.
• Payment information: We do not collect or store your credit card number directly. Payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processor (Sticky.io). We receive a transaction confirmation and subscription status, but never your raw card data.

Information collected automatically:

• IP address and general geographic location (country, state)
• Browser type and version
• Device type (mobile vs. desktop)
• Pages visited and time spent on the site
• Referring URL (how you arrived at our site)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:

• To deliver search results: The name and state you provide are used solely to query public records databases and return results to you.
• Email communications: We may send you your search results, account confirmations, and service-related updates. If you opt in, we may send promotional communications about our service. You can opt out at any time.
• Service improvement: Aggregate, anonymized usage data helps us understand how people use our service so we can improve it.
• Fraud prevention and security: We use IP and session data to detect and prevent abuse of our service.
• Legal compliance: We may use or disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.

3. Information We DON'T Collect

We designed our service to require the minimum information necessary. We do not collect:

• Social Security Numbers (SSNs) - we never ask for them
• Date of birth of the person being searched
• Credit card numbers or raw payment credentials
• Driver's license numbers or government ID numbers
• Health or medical information
• Precise real-time geolocation data

4. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate our platform. Each has its own privacy policy and data practices:

• Brevo (formerly Sendinblue): Used to send transactional and marketing emails. Your email address is stored in Brevo's system when you subscribe. See Brevo's privacy policy at brevo.com.
• Twilio: Used for optional SMS notifications. If you provide a phone number for SMS alerts, it is transmitted to Twilio for delivery. See Twilio's privacy policy at twilio.com.
• Sticky.io: Our payment processor. Handles all credit card transactions and subscription billing. We receive transaction status but not raw card data. See Sticky.io's privacy policy at sticky.io.
• Cloudflare: Our hosting and security provider. Cloudflare may collect basic traffic data (IP addresses, request metadata) as part of providing DDoS protection and CDN services. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at cloudflare.com.

We do not share your personal information with any other third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use a minimal set of cookies and session storage technologies:

• Session cookies: Used to maintain your logged-in state during a browsing session. These expire when you close your browser.
• Persistent cookies: Used to remember your preferences (such as having previously logged in). These may last up to 12 months.
• Cloudflare analytics: Cloudflare may set cookies as part of their security and analytics services. These collect anonymized, aggregate data about traffic patterns.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not participate in cross-site behavioral advertising networks. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features of our service may not function properly without them.

6. Data Retention

We retain different types of data for different periods:

• Search queries: We do not store the names you search permanently. Search inputs are used to query public records in real time and are not retained after your session ends.
• Email addresses: Retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide email communications. You can request deletion at any time.
• Transaction records: Payment and subscription records are retained for up to 7 years to comply with financial recordkeeping requirements.
• Server logs: Access logs (IP addresses, request data) are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes, then deleted.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Opt out of emails: Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at privacy@ismyspousehidingdebt.com to be removed from all communications.
• Request data deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal data by emailing privacy@ismyspousehidingdebt.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days, subject to any legal retention obligations.
• Access your data: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data: If you believe we hold inaccurate information about you, you may request a correction.

If you are a resident of California, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Please contact us to exercise any of these rights.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for, and may not be used by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child under 18 has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately at privacy@ismyspousehidingdebt.com and we will delete that information promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify registered users by email. Your continued use of the service after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Archived versions of previous policies are available upon request.
